Horizon Oil commits $300,000 to health services in Western Province, PNG, with Australian Doctors International
7/3/2013: Horizon Oil, an Australian oil exploration company with operations in PNG, NZ and China, has committed $300,000 over three years to help improve health services in North Fly District of Western Province, PNG, in partnership with the medical development aid organisation Australian Doctors International (ADI) and the Diocese of Daru-Kiunga Health Services (DDKHS).

Olding sisters to treat patients, train health workers and help install water and power for rural hospital in remote Papua New Guinea
4/2/2013: Melanie Olding (32)(pictured), an experienced doctor based in Darwin NT, and her little sister Belinda Olding (30), a talented construction project manager based in Newcastle NSW, have arrived in New Ireland for a five-month volunteer assignment at Namatanai District Hospital. This 56-bed hospital is isolated and has no running water or reliable power, despite seeing over 66,000 patients a year.

Corowa GP and schoolteacher duo to volunteer in remote New Ireland Province of Papua New Guinea
Following three decades servicing the Corowa community and stints working in remote Indigenous communities, Dr Bruce Slonim and his wife Gayle Slonim, a rural primary school teacher, are headed to Papua New Guinea (PNG) to volunteer with the medical aid organisation Australian Doctors International who work in partnership with PNG’s New Ireland Provincial Government.

Critical health situation in Western Province, PNG, due to flooding
ADI 14/6/2012: Due to severe flooding in Western Province, the alarming health situation is escalating to a possible crisis. This includes the risk of a cholera outbreak. ADI wrote to the Director General of AusAID to inform him of the situation.

ADI 10/4/2012: Sir Julius Chan, Governor of New Ireland Province, has confirmed that in 2012 his government will commit over $190,000 (400,000 kina) to improve primary health care services in partnership with the medical aid organisation Australian Doctors International (ADI).

AusAID 6/3/2012: AusAID Director General Peter Baxter opened a temporary tuberculosis (TB) isolation ward on 22 February. This forms part of a wide range of initiatives being funded by AusAID to support Papua New Guinea’s (PNG) health authorities to reduce the threat of TB infection in PNG and the Torres Strait.
